Seminar on Assessing Climate Change Impacts on Grassland Ecosystem

A Seminar on Assessing Climate Change Impacts on Grassland Ecosystem Thailand 17 Sep 2025

On 17 September 2025, the ABCD-Centre conducted a seminar at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand, on the topic “Integrated Nexus Approach to Assessing Climate Change Impacts on Grassland Ecosystem Dynamics: A Case Study from Tanzania”. The seminar was delivered by Dr. Azin Zarei, Research Associate at UNU-FLORES, and was hosted by Dr. Dibesh Khadka from the Water Engineering and Management (WEM) program. Dr. Zarei shared valuable insights on the Climate-Vegetation nexus in Tanzania, presenting her research on how climate change impacts vegetation dynamics across diverse ecosystems. Using advanced remote sensing, GIS, and statistical models, she highlighted the fragility of grassland and forest ecosystems under changing climatic conditions and emphasized the importance of integrated approaches in land-use planning, conservation, and climate adaptation. The seminar provided enriching opportunities for students and researchers from the WEM program to learn how ecosystems respond to climate drivers and the implications for livelihoods and sustainable land management. Dr. Zarei is currently undertaking a month-long research stay at AIT, supported by the DAAD-funded ABCD Centre, further strengthening collaboration on climate, ecosystem research, and sustainability.
